Volunteer
The Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore has a dedicated group of volunteers who work with Cape Cod National Seashore staff on various programs and projects. If you are interested in any of the areas outlined below, we can always use more hands and would welcome your participation.
GENERAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Trail Maintenance - The adopt-a-trail program asks that individuals, couples, or small groups walk one trail on a regular basis, providing basic maintenance such as lopping, clipping, and clearing, and reporting more significant maintenance issues to the Park Trail Maintenance Team. The Friends also has occasional group work days in which volunteers are asked to join us on a group trail project.
Program Greeters - Volunteers greet people at Salt Pond Visitor Center. There are opportunities to greet at summer evening programs late-June through August, in January and February for the Winter Film Series, or at events at other times of year for Friends-sponsored programs. Hand out literature and represent the organization.
Native Gardens - Calling all gardeners! Learn about common native plants on the Cape while raking, pruning, and weeding the planting beds at various park locations on a recurring basis with the direction of park staff.
Community Engagement Committee - Help expand awareness of our mission and grow membership through this newly formed committee. Members will organize our presence at community events, support outreach activities, and assist with planning programs that connect more people to conservation.
Communications Committee - Support our storytelling and outreach by helping with social media, email communications, photography, and video needs, and organizing digital assets. Ideal for volunteers interested in creative communications and message development.
Development Committee - Guide our fundraising and membership efforts by identifying grant opportunities, supporting fundraising event planning, and assisting with major donor outreach. Committee members also partner with the Director of Development on key initiatives.
Flexible Volunteer Projects - Ready for Immediate Support!
Organize our photo library - Help catalog and maintain our digital photo collection featuring landscapes, wildlife, and park programs.
Support handwritten outreach - Assist with handwritten notes, envelope addressing, and light correspondence for member and donor mailings—perfect for at-home volunteering.
Grant support - Assist with research, outreach, and tracking to help identify funding opportunities that advance the Seashore’s mission.
Help build a Business Partnership Program - Support the creation and growth of a program that engages local businesses in meaningful collaboration and support for the organization.
Occasional Opportunities
There are generally two annual Saturday projects that involve just a few hours of volunteer time. In April, Earth Day is celebrated with beach clean-ups at selected areas in the park co-sponsored with the Center for Coastal Studies in Provincetown. In September, we participate in the National Park Service-wide Public Lands Day by helping with planting or maintenance projects in conjunction with park personnel. At other times we respond to National Seashore needs as requested.
