All the President’s Men

February 22. As campaigning for the 1972 presidential elections takes place, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward covers a seemingly minor break-in at the Democratic Party National headquarters at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C. When he attends an arraignment of the alleged burglars, he discovers that top lawyers are already on the defense case. Woodward then discovers ties between the burglars, the attorneys and the committee to re-elect President Richard Nixon. Washington Post Editor Ben Bradley assigns reporter Carl Bernstein to the story and the pair ultimately uncover a trail of evidence leading to President Nixon. The result of the scandal was the first and only  resignation of an American president. The film (1976) stars the late Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman.  Rated PG (2h 18m)

March 8. This 2010 version tells the story of Mattie Ross. Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested.—Jim Beaver Rated PG (1h, 50m)
